In the tropical rainforest one
expects the unexpected, but no one
could have ever expected this.
Actually, this is not true. One
person did. Someone with a vision,
the knowledge of shells, and the eye
for recognizing artistic talent,
knew that the Wounaan Indians from
the Darien Rainforest Region of
Panama would be able to carve cameos.
So he set out to find the carvers
whose work in wood and “tagua” or
vegetable ivory he admired, and gave
them the tools and shells with which
to practice.

From these humble beginnings, we now
have a team of people working on
this exciting project, and it gives
us tremendous pride and pleasure to
introduce you to our line of cameos.
Sold under the trademark,
Rainforest Design®, we hope
to change the way people think about
cameos forever.
Our designs are unique, inspired by
the flora and fauna of the Tropical
Rainforest. The cameos are carved
from the Queen’s Helmet shell
(Cassis madagascariensis spinella)
found in the waters of the Caribbean,
also known as “Sardonyx”, and the
most valued of shells for this
purpose.
Whether set in 18kt gold or sold
unframed, each piece is numbered,
signed by the carver, and
accompanied by a Certificate of
Authenticity as to being 100%
handmade in Panama.
We invite you to look at samples of
our work in our Design Gallery.
There are beautiful orchids and
other flowers, birds, reptiles,
marine life, etc. found under two
basic categories, Fine Cameo Jewelry
and Unframed Cameos.
Because our jewelry line is composed
of one of a kind, unique pieces that
you will not find elsewhere, we use
only the finest materials, 18kt gold,
semi-precious and precious stones,
and needless to say, the finest
goldsmiths.
We make pendants,
brooches, earrings, enhancers, and
can provide cameo suites or sets,
which
are virtually impossible to
find for the woman who likes her
earrings to match. Again, all is
100% handmade in Panama. There are
no manufactured parts. Our Unframed
Cameos are available for the
collector who prefers unique pieces
in mint condition that have never
been framed or used.
The pictures can
speak for themselves, but we believe
you will agree with Helen Serras-Herman,
Master cameo
carver and expert in the field, who
says:
“These cameos are
absolutely beautiful. Fine detail,
well finished, carved in stunningly
high relief….The subject themes are
beautiful, too. They are very unique
in the market…”
We invite
inquiries from those who are
interested in purchasing individual
pieces or becoming authorized
resellers. |
